Yobe to establish drug abuse rehabilitation agency

The Yobe State Government has announced plans to establish a State Drug Abuse Prevention and Rehabilitation Agency to tackle the growing challenges of drug abuse and substance dependency in the state.

The State’s Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Saleh Samanja, disclosed this during a one-day public lecture on a drug-free learning environment organised by the Coalition of Northern Groups at the Federal Polytechnic Damaturu.

He said the agency would coordinate drug prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and reintegration programmes, thereby strengthening public health, youth development, and social stability.

The Commissioner added that the governor is highly committed to the agency, which is expected to significantly reduce drug consumption among youths.
