The Yobe State Government has announced plans to return 2,390 displaced residents of the Mafa ward to their ancestral homes.
Brigadier General Abdulsalam Dahiru (Rtd), the Special Advisor on Security to the Yobe State Governor, disclosed this during a press briefing in Damaturu on Thursday.
The residents were forced to flee following Boko Haram attacks in August and September that claimed the lives of 34 villagers.
The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) said the attacks displaced 475 households from four different communities within the Mafa ward in Tarmuwa Local Government Area.
Dahiru noted that the military and police Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) teams had been directed to clear unexploded devices left behind by insurgents.
He added that once the clearance is completed, security operatives will accompany the residents back to the Mafa ward to harvest their matured crops.
General Dahiru also highlighted plans for troops to clear the entire Magumeri Forest up to Damasak to secure the area.
