The Centre for Higher Education, Leadership and Teacher Training (CHELTT), Yobe State University, Damaturu, has trained 30 female teachers from public schools in Yobe State on literacy and gender-responsive hygiene.

The 5-day training, which commenced on Monday 8 September, 2025 and scheduled to end on Friday 12 September, 2025, is supported by The Leggatt Trust Educational Charity, United Kingdom.

In his address to the participants, the acting Vice-Chancellor of Yobe State University, Prof. Bukar Jamri, emphasized that the university is committed to supporting the Yobe State Government through CHELTT and other specialized centres in the university to strengthen the capacity of teachers in the state.

The Director of CHELTT, Prof. Clifford Irikefe Gbeyonron, stated that the modules to be covered during the training include Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), gender-responsive pedagogy and counselling, caregiving, life skills, menstrual Hygiene Management and literacy.

Earlier, the lead training coordinator, Dr Muhammad Dahiru, told the participants that they were expected to cascade the lessons learnt during the training to their female colleagues to enable them to manage the Leggatt Corners that will be established in some schools across the state.
