The newly elected Chairman of the Association of Yoruba Traditional Leaders/Obas in Northern States and the FCT, Alhaji Hassan Alao, has called on Yoruba people to unite in their respective domains for the sake of peace and development.

Alhaji Alao made the call while delivering his acceptance speech after he emerged the chairman of the association during the first elections of the group on Saturday in Abuja.

Alao said he would work closely with other elected officials to uplift the lives of Yoruba people living in the North.

He advised the Yoruba to be law-abiding citizens anywhere they lived, and urged them to accord respect to the paramount rulers in their host communities.

He, therefore, called on those who lost out in the elections to join hands with the officials of the association to contribute their quota to the progress and development of the Yoruba council.

The electoral committee Chairman, Alhaji Abdulrahman J. Yusuf, urged the new officials to remain committed to their duties.

On their parts, the Oba of Yoruba in the FCT, Olusegun Salawu, and the Oba of Yoruba of Gombi in Adamawa State, Dr. Alani Kolawole Adeyimi, both charged the Yoruba to work for the progress of Nigeria at all times.

Oba Salau described the conduct of the elections as free and fair, and pleaded with the Yoruba to speak with one voice.
