You can’t criticize Jonathan on this one

Similarly, a total of 58,000 metric tons of improved seeds for rice and maize were provided to them free of charge within the period.
Making the revelation at a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rally in Kano recently, Jonathan said the allocation was the highest in the country as 90 per cent of all registered farmers from the state had successfully received the commodity, using the e-wallet system.
I want to believe that the gesture was not limited only to Kano, given that the GES is a national programme established to promote federal government’s agricultural transformation agenda. All other states across the federation have equally benefitted immensely from this gesture to make Nigeria self-sufficient in food.
Looking at the size of the state and the fact that a large percentage of its population engage in active agricultural activities, it is not surprising that Kano got the highest allocation of the fertiliser. Politics and any other consideration apart, the gesture is worth commending. Leaders should be encouraged and hailed when they do good things for their own people. They should also be assisted with prayers when they derail.
The president used the opportunity of the rally to tell Kano people what the federal government under his watch has been doing for them and Nigeria as a whole. He did so obviously to absolve his administration of the blame that Kano and its people have not been getting what they rightly deserve from the administration as his political opponents tend to portray in the media or at any given forum.
It is hoped that the federal government would not, in any way, relent in its determined effort to change the face of agriculture in the country.
