A former governor of Niger State, Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has advised the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other elected leaders of the country to work towards unity and national cohesion.

He gave the advice at the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial 9th lecture held in Lafiya, Nasarawa State at the weekend.

Aliyu who was fondly addressed as Chief Servant during his tenure said “In Nigeria today, everything is top secret – including the sickness of our leaders.

“Is it not possible to create and build a nation amongst disparate tribes, multi-ethnic groups, different and often divisive religions, regions and states?” he asked.

According to him, “It is possible, only if we can get the people to have confidence in the institutions, leaders, governments and the whole system”.

This, he said, should be our assignment not only in Nigeria but also in Africa.
