Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at opposition leaders behind the newly formed political coalition, challenging them to present their performance records while in office.

Wike was reacting to Tuesday’s adoption of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the official platform for the opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The alliance includes prominent political figures such as former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar; ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi; former Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufai, among others.

Speaking shortly after the coalition’s unveiling, Wike criticised the group’s credibility and questioned their motive, especially given that the coalition was reportedly conceived just six months into President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“If this coalition started 18 months ago, it means barely six months after President Tinubu assumed office, some people were already scheming for a takeover,” Wike said.

“Somebody came into office and in six months, they started a coalition saying that the man has not performed. What kind of people are you?

“You had an opportunity to be Senate President for eight years, Speaker for four years, Minister of Transportation for eight years, yet you never made angry Nigerians happy,” he said.

Wike said the criticisms against Tinubu’s administration are misplaced and politically motivated, especially coming from people who failed to deliver when they held power.

“I have said, everybody should show their scorecard. God gave you an opportunity to be in office to make Nigerians happy, but you refused. Now that you’re out of office, you’re angry and claiming Nigerians are angry,” he added.

Wike declared that the coalition leaders would not succeed in returning to power.

“You want to come back to power? You won’t come back. You will not come back to power,” he said.
