The chairman of the PDM, Alhaji Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim, said in Abuja that Jonathan, for three years, has refused to take concrete actions until campaigns commenced for the 2015 elections.
He accused Jonathan of initially viewing the actions of the sect to mean religious war, rather than an insurgency which the government needed to tackle. He identified lack of good governance, poor leadership, misinterpretation of the doctrine of Islam as well as poverty as factors responsible for insurgency and other vices in the North-east.
“The worst situation is that it even took Jonathan more than three years to appreciate and understand that Boko Haram is a terrible mix of lack of education, misinterpretation of what Islam and the Qur’an teaches and stands for,” he said.
He said the president-elect General Muhammadu Buhari would have a lot to do in his efforts to fix Nigeria, considering the level of rot in the country.
The PDM chairman said unless urgent steps were taken by the incoming administration to address some challenges in the country, Nigerians would continue to suffer for no fault of theirs.
