The chief executive officer of Zion Study Centre Toyin Joseph Larayetan, has emphasised the urgent need for the federal government and the private sector to adopt a technology-driven approach in their youth empowerment initiatives.

In a recent statement during his weekly broadcast “Echoes from Zion”, he argued that as the world rapidly transitions from 5G to 6G technology, empowerment programs must evolve beyond traditional methods, such as providing youths with wheelbarrows and head pans.

Larayetan highlighted the transformative potential of smartphones, describing them as vital tools for multitasking and entrepreneurship.

He pointed out that these devices can serve as platforms for various income-generating activities, thereby becoming instrumental in tackling the mounting issue of unemployment among young people.

By equipping youths with digital skills and exposing them to the vast opportunities that technology offers, Larayetan believes that the positive impact on their lives and futures could be substantial.

He called on key stakeholders to prioritise digital literacy and technological resources in their empowerment schemes to ensure that the younger generation is not left behind in this digital age.

“Western education is not putting food on our table anymore. Youths should look inward and start equipping themselves with digital skills with their mobile phones. Religious bodies can also use their platforms, churches, mosques, and Islamia centres to share knowledge and curb the rising employment gap in Nigeria. Nigeria is a great country, we all need to be involved and contribute our quota in uplifting the minds of our countrymen and women,” he concluded.
