A political group, Youth for Good Governance and Sustainable Development (YGG-5D), has said residents of the Federal Capital Territory FCT (FCT) have no reason to participate in the August 1 to 10 nationwide protest as they will be the ones to lose.

Briefing newsmen Wednesday in Abuja, the coordinator of the group, Muhammed Kabir Abubakar, said a careful study shows that the protests are being planned by faceless people, “who want to use the youth as a tool to cause trouble, which may probably lead to breach of law and order.”

He said: “We invited you here today under our Youth organization based in FCT members of this organization are mostly FCT natives and residents who live, and do their business here.

“We as people residing in FCT have no reason to participate in this nationwide protest because we carefully studied and understand that the protest are being planned by faceless people who want to use the youth as a tool to cause trouble, which may probably lead to breach of law and order.

“Definitely, the FCT natives and residents have so many problems and challenges bothering us. Instead of protest against the government, we choose dialogue with the government. Through different forum various issues were presented to the government.

“We in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), our issues were presented to the Honourable Minister of FCT, through the Executive Chairman of AMAC, Hon Christopher Zakka Maikalangu. Part of the issues presented to government have started getting administrative solution.”

He added: “The creation of Mandate Secretariat for Youth Development, recently approved by His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is part of the immediate solutions. We also believe that other challenges will soon be attended to and the youth will soon smile.

“Hitherto, members of this reputable youth organization have concluded that we are not going to participate in any protest because we have no reason for that. At the same time, we are calling and pleading with our dear youths out there to reverse all their plans and choose dialogue as a means of getting solution to most of the challenges bothering us.

“We don’t have any home better than Abuja Municipal, and we don’t have any home better than FCT. This is where we live. This is where we invest our business and this is where we are based.

“Therefore, we will not allow some sponsored miscreants to come and destroy our home. If they refuse to reverse their plan, definitely, we will also resist because we cannot sit and watch other people destroy our home.

“The EndSARS protest have taught us a great lesson where people from their villages had to vacate their homes while some of us had to lodge them in hotels.

“Abuja is the seat of power and we cannot afford to destroy our capital city by people being sponsored from outside the country.”
