The Nigerian Youth Parliament (NYP) has expressed concern over the country’s security challenges, particularly incidents of kidnapping and abduction affecting citizens in different parts of Nigeria.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the Speaker of the Nigerian Youth Parliament, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Zakari, described reports of the recent abduction of students and teachers in Borno and Oyo states as disturbing.

According to him, such incidents raise concerns about public safety, access to education and national development.

“We are particularly concerned about reports of the recent abduction of students and teachers in Borno and Oyo states. These incidents raise serious concerns about the future of our young people and the nation’s educational system,” Zakari said.

The Youth Parliament called on security agencies and relevant authorities to intensify efforts to secure the release of all abducted persons, including the affected students and teachers.

It also urged governments at all levels to strengthen security measures and implement proactive steps aimed at preventing similar incidents.

“The safety of Nigerians, particularly young people and those within our educational institutions, must remain a top national priority,” the statement added.

The Parliament expressed solidarity with the affected families and communities and reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for a safer and more secure Nigeria.
