The youths had stormed the radio house for the Jos North Governorship Campaign Coordinator of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Muhammed Adam, otherwise called Dan London, after he said on a live radio programme with journalists at the radio station that a Muslim scholar and some youths who had stoned him the previous day were Boko Haram members.
Adam had made the remark before he rushed out of the station accompanied by security operatives. However, the angry youths had gathered before journalists could leave the building. The youths threw stones at journalists, demanding they hand over Adam and threatened to burn down the building.
They damaged five cars, including our correspondent’s vehicle and even damaged the right eye of a youth leader from Zinaria community who tried to calm them down.
The youths also burnt the politician’s family home and his brother’s house in Anguwan Rogo after his family had been evacuated. Eye witnesses’ account indicated that one person was killed when the Special Task Force (STF) stormed the area to disperse the youths.
Our correspondent had reported that Adam had been stoned out of his Anguwan Rogo polling unit on Saturday when he tried to vote before the end of accreditation.
He had called a press conference to explain the nature of the attack where he described a religious scholar from Anguwan Rogo as a member of Boko Haram whom he claimed instigated the youths to attack him.
Officers and men of the STF were deployed to both the Unity FM and in much of Anguwan Rogo where the two houses were burnt and the sound of the gunshots created much tension around the Bauchi Road axis of the Jos capital city where both the radio station and Dan London’s houses are located.
Spokesman of the STF Capt Ihedichi Iweha confirmed the incident but said nobody died as a result of it.
