Youths woo Ex-Senate President into 2027 governorship race

Some members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Yobe State have asked the President of 9th Senate, Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan, to contest the governorship of Yobe State in the 2027 general elections.

Lawan, who has been the senator representing Yobe North senatorial district since 2007, served as 14th President of the Nigerian Senate from 2019 to 2023.

The protesters youth under the auspices of ‘Daga Buni sai Bade’ meaning ‘After Governor Mai Mala Buni, the next is Ahmed Lawan’ made this call during a solidarity walk in support of Ex-Senate President in Potiskum, Yobe State.

The Leader of the Protesters, Comrade Musa Bello, who addresses newsmen said Yobe youths have threatened to drag the former Senate President to court if he fails to answer their calls to contest for governorship come the 2027 general election.

According to him, the endorsement of Lawan was as a result of his track record and service delivery to humanity to the state and the country.

“The former Senate President has experience, good educational background and unique leadership of inclusion.

“When he was a senate president, he united the chamber by carrying everybody along. That’s why they are calling him Unity.

“His projects and interventions have touched every nook and cranny of this state without discrimination of religion or tribes.

“So, Ahmed Lawan is a man for the job and he is ready to take our state to the next level.

“Behalf of Yobe youth from the 17 LGAs of the State we are calling Ahmed Lawan to contest for the governorship of Yobe State in the 2027 general elections failure to answer our calls we would drag him to court” He said.

He further said since the creation of Yobe State, the people of Yobe North and the state in general have never witnessed the real dividend of democracy like that of Ahmed Lawan tenure in the areas of education, health, rural and urban development, empowerment of youth and women across all the LGAs in the state.

Responding to the demands of the protesters, the State Coordinator of ‘Daga Buni sai Bade’ Alhaji Nasiru Mato said what Yobe citizens needed most is the right choice, right candidates of someone like Senator Lawan to lead and the state to the promised land in the forthcoming general election 2027.

He further said Lawan has been a royal member to the party and it’s leadership who works with four governors of the State.

He promised to deliver the demands of the protesters to the ex-senate president for consideration.
