The Super Eagles defeated their Ethiopian counterparts 4-0 in the Nations Cup 2012 qualifiers and later beat Harambee Stars of Kenya 3-0 in an international friendly encounter while the Olympic team dubbed “Dream Team IV” led by Austin Eguavoen defeated Equatorial Guinea 5-0 to put them in good place for qualification to London 2012 Olympic Games next year.

In an interview with our correspondent, the YSFON boss noted that the recent results from the country’s national football teams was an indication that Nigeria is gradually bouncing back to regain its leadership position in African football which has nosedived in recent years.

“I must tell you that I am very happy with the good work Coach Samson Siasia and Austin Eguavoen are doing in their various teams. It is an indication that our indigenous coaches are capable of managing our national teams. The results show that Nigerian football is gradually coming back to its rightful position in the continent.

“It is equally important to recognise the role played by the Nigeria Football Supporters Club led by Dr. Rafiu Ladipo. They supported the teams from the first blast of the whistle to the end and I appeal to them not to relent in their efforts at supporting the national teams at all times”, he stated.

He however cautioned the teams not to be carried away by the victories, because doing so might have negative effects on their performance.

“My advice to the teams is that they should not be carried away by the victories. There are still a lot ahead. They should rather remain focused and win all their remaining qualifying matches”, he concluded.
