Less than 72 hours an intelligence agency, the Department of State Services (DSS) raised the alarm that some criminals were plotting to carry out violent attacks on public places including key and vulnerable points during the yuletide seasons, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered 24/7 water-tight security nationwide.
The IGP, who gave the directives to all Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of Police in charge of Zonal and State Commands nationwide, said they should ensure a peaceful celebration.
The police boss equally directed the Strategic Officers to ensure massive deployment of intelligence and other operational assets of the Force particularly on major highways, airports, railway stations, recreational centres, motor – parks, places of worship, financial institutions, amongst others.
According to a statement made available to newsmen by the Force Spokesperson, DCP Frank Mba, the 24/7 water-tight security arrangement and proactive high visibility patrols in all the States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), ahead of the Christmas and New Year Celebrations, was expedient considering present situations across the country.
The statement partly read, “They (AIGs and CPs) are also to ensure that personnel deployed are adequately supervised for utmost professionalism in the discharge of their duties.”
Adamu warned that acts bordering on indiscipline, extortion and intimidation of travellers and other road users will not be condoned.
It would be recalled that the DSS, through its spokesperson, had also said criminals were planning to carry out the dastardly acts by using the explosives, suicide bombing and other dangerous weapons, saying it had partnered with other security agencies to halt the plots.
