The Forum of Consumers for National Growth (FCNG) has commended President Bola Tinubu and the Dangote Group over the recent reduction in petrol prices, saying the move will ease transportation costs for Nigerians during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by its National Coordinator, Dr. Adekunle Olorunfemi, and Public Relations Officer, Rev. Moses Alkali, the forum said the lower prices reflect the impact of ongoing economic reforms and increased local refining capacity.
The group particularly welcomed the decision by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery to reduce its gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) by N129 per litre to N699, effective December 12, 2025.
According to FCNG, the development is expected to benefit consumers as demand for fuel rises during the festive period, when many Nigerians travel to celebrate with family and friends.
“The reduction in price is a welcome relief for consumers at a time when transportation and other holiday-related expenses are usually high,” the statement said.
The forum attributed the price adjustment to policies aimed at encouraging local refining and competition in the downstream petroleum sector, noting that increased domestic production has helped reduce dependence on imported fuel.
It also noted that the Dangote refinery has introduced measures to improve access to products for marketers, including a credit facility and reduced minimum order quantities, to enable wider distribution across the country.
FCNG said the refinery’s current output, which it put at about 70 million litres of refined products daily, including petrol and diesel, has strengthened fuel supply and contributed to greater stability in the market.
The group added that sourcing crude oil from within the region has further supported steady production and distribution.
While commending the refinery’s efforts, the forum also praised the federal government for creating what it described as a more conducive environment for private sector participation in the energy sector.
“Consumers are beginning to feel the impact of these changes through improved availability of fuel and more stable prices,” the statement said.
The forum urged the government and industry players to sustain the collaboration that has led to the recent price reduction, while calling for policies that will continue to protect consumers and promote long-term energy security.
