The Abuja Operations office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has flagged off “Operation Eagle eye” aimed at responding to victims of road crashes in the capital city during the yuletide period.
While flagging off the exercise at Giri in Abuja, the Head of NEMA FCT operations office, Bitrus Samuel said the effort was in support of the Federal Road Safety Corps’ activities.
“NEMA, as part of its responsibilities as the focal agency of government in Nigeria for the management of emergencies,… is deploying skilled personnel and equipment in support of…FRSC to strategic locations in the FCT and across the country to respond rapidly to any distress alert.
“The overarching objective is that no crash victim should needlessly die or be permanently confined to the wheelchair as a result of lack of initial care and poor casualty handling,” Samuel said.
He revealed that NEMA was deploying, in support of FRSC’s operation from December 22 to January 3, four Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Ambulances, two Rapid Intervention Vehicle and 25 skilled personnel in mass care.
He urged the personnel and other stakeholders to work together in reducing the suffering of crash victims in this period.
On his part, the Sector Commander of FRSC, FCT Command, Wobin Gora, commended the FCT NEMA for the supports.
He assured that all equipment will be channeled rightly, saying most fatalities on the roads were as a result of unavailability of the right equipment.
While disclosing that the response time to emergency in the FCT was between five and ten minutes, he stressed that the additional equipment will help reduce response time to between three and five minutes.
