The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano State command, has said it deployed 1,539 personnel for the End of Year 2023/New Year 2024 special patrol operation.

According to the State Sector Commander, Ibrahim Sallau Abdullahi, this year’s operation has “Speed Thrills But Kills, Drive Responsibly and Avoid Overloading” as theme.

The commander highlighted the comprehensive measures undertaken to ensure road safety during the festive season as the operation is named ‘Operation Zero Tolerance to Road Traffic Crashes’, which is scheduled to run from December 15th to January 15th, 2024.

“A total of 1,539 personnel, consisting of 1,303 regular marshals and 236 special marshals, will be stationed on major routes to ensure safe and smooth vehicular movement.

“The FRSC has deployed five ambulances, 25 patrol vehicles, one heavy-duty tow truck, and other operational equipment to major routes and highways.

“This includes the deployment of personnel at station officers in the 44 local government areas of Kano State,” he stated.

He maintained that the deployed personnel would focus on critical road junctions, ensuring the free flow of traffic, and providing prompt attention to victims of road traffic crashes.

Abdullahi emphasized the importance of responsible driving and adherence to traffic regulations during the festive period and urged drivers to avoid traffic offences such as driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, dangerous overtaking, overloading, excessive speeding, lane discipline/route violation, under-age driving, and the use of phones while driving.

He further expressed best wishes for a happy and accident-free 2023 Christmas and New Year and sought cooperation from the general public to ensure the success of the operation.
