Yusuf attributes Eagles appointment to hard work

Last Wednesday, at its Annual General Meeting in Uyo, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, announced the appointments of two former internationals, Yusuf of Kano Pillars and Ike Shorunmu as Eagles assistant coaches.

While Yusuf will be the second assistant coach, former Eagles goalkeeper, Shorunmu will serve as goalkeepers’ trainer.

Speaking to Trustsports yesterday, Yusuf expressed happiness with his appointment as Coach Samson Siasia’s assistant saying he has worked hard over the years and deserved the appointment.

He said his appointment did not come to him as a surprise because he has always believed that there is reward for hard work.

Yusuf said: “When you are hard working somebody somewhere is watching your performance. There is no doubt that my appointment is a result of hard work and I am not going to rest on my oars.

“My appointment should encourage other coaches to be dedicated and committed to their work knowing fully well that one day they too would be recognized. Had it been I was not committed to my coaching career, I wouldn’t have been handed this big responsibility”.

Coach Yusuf also spoke on his relationship with Siasia as he said he would not have any problem assisting the Eagles chief coach because they had worked together in 2009.

He said: “Siasia is my very good friend and considering the fact that we had worked together in 2009, it will not be difficult for us to succeed. He will receive unflinching support from me and the others.

“Siasia is a good coach who takes his assistants along in his decisions and this is one of the things that will make the present coaching crew to achieve results”.

The Kano Pillars coach maintained that with the support of all Nigerians, the technical crew headed by Siasia will certainly return Eagles to its glorious days in global football.
