An Islamic cleric, Sheikh Umar Sani Fagge, has urged Muslims to embrace the practice of Zakat al-Fitr as a means of addressing poverty and hunger within the community.

Speaking in Kano, Sheikh Fagge, who is also a professor of Arabic at Bayero University Kano, said Zakat al-Fitr was prescribed by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as a compulsory act of charity for all Muslims, regardless of their status.

“When the wealthy fulfil their duty of giving Zakat al-Fitr, it enables the less fortunate to also extend generosity to those in even greater need,” he said.

He said the practice plays a crucial role in wealth circulation within Islamic society and ensures that every Muslim can partake in the joy of Eid without financial distress.
