The Osun State chapter of Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation (ZSF),  has disbursed N11.4 million naira paid as zakat (obligatory charity) by some wealthy Muslims in the state to 69 poor people across the state to alleviate their sufferings.
Those that benefitted from the gesture included the physically challenged, indigent students and apprentices who could not afford to buy their working tools. It was the sixth zakat distribution by the ZSF, held at Western Sun Hotel, Aisu area, along NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in
Ede, Osun State.
A victim of an attack on a Jum’at mosque in Ede by some hoodlums during a Jum’at service last year, Alfa Salawu Mojeed, received N2 million as part of the money required for his micro-vascular surgery in India.
The Ede chapter of Joint National Association of Persons with Disability, also got N150,000 from the ZSF to assist members of the association to develop their vocational centre in Ede.
Some university and polytechnic students who could not pay school fees in their various institutions also got money from the ZSF to pay their fees, while tailoring apprentice were given sewing machines.
 The foundation also distributed grinding machines and freezers to some widows and housewives to enable them earn income and feed their children.
Speaking with Eko Trust, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ZSF, Prince Sulayman Olagunju said that the ZSF carefully scrutinised all the beneficiaries and ascertained that they really needed help to survive at this period.

He noted that the distribution of the zakat received from wealthy individuals in Osun State took place in Ede because majority of the donors were from the community and that it was
imperative to use the zakat on same.
 
He urged other wealthy individuals in Osun State to pay their zakat “to purify their wealth and
earn rewards from Allah.”
