Zakzaky’s son petitions NBA, Privileges committee against Malami

The surviving son of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, Muhammad, has petitioned the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) against the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami (SAN) over the continued detention his father.

Muhammad Zakzakky has also petitioned the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee accusing the AGF of “gross misconduct” over his failure to comply with the order of court for the release of his parents from detention.

In the two petitions dated February 28, 2017, Muhammad called on the legal bodies to apply appropriate sanctions and punitive measures against the AGF for disobeying an order of the court, while being additionally a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

Justice Gabriel Kolawole had on December 2, 2016 ordered the release of Zakzaky and his wife from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), where they are being held since December 2015 following the confrontation of the sect members and the military which led to the death of scores of people.

The judge also directed the AGF to pay the sum of N50 million in damages to the couple and the provision of new accommodation for their household within 45 days in Kaduna State or any other part of Northern Nigeria.
