The Zamfara State House of Assembly has suspended two local government council chairmen over alleged financial misappropriation.

A statement by the spokesperson of the House, Bello Madaro Kurya, said the suspension of the two chairmen marked a decisive step in strengthening transparency and accountability in local government administration across the state.

The suspended chairmen are Mannir Mu’azu Haidara of Kaura Namoda Local Government Council and his counterpart, Umar A. Faru of Bukkuyum Local Government Council.

The House spokesperson said the plenary sitting of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs presented its report through the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Adamu Aliyu Gumm, who is the Vice Chairman of the Committee.

The report centred on the ongoing investigation into the financial activities of the 14 local government councils for the 2025 fiscal year.

Kurya maintained that the affected officials have been directed to hand over the administration of their councils to their respective Vice chairmen without delay.

All efforts to speak to the concerned chairmen proved abortive as they refused to respond to calls.

When contacted on the development, the state ALGON Public Relations Officer and Talata Mafara Council Chairman, Hon. Yahaya Abubakar Yari, said they are currently employing reconciliation measures to resolve the lingering issues between the two councils’ chairmen and the state House of Assembly.
