Zamfara distributes 50 buses to NURTW, commissions five fire trucks

Governor Dauda Lawal has distributed 50 new buses to members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Zamfara State under the state government’s vehicle loan scheme.

The buses were handed over to beneficiaries at the Government House in Gusau.

In a statement, the governor’s spokesman, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the initiative was aimed at improving public transportation, promoting economic empowerment and enhancing road transport services across the state.

Speaking during the ceremony, Lawal said each bus was procured at N27.39 million, with the state government providing a 20 per cent subsidy amounting to N5.478 million per vehicle.

He said beneficiaries would repay N21.912 million for each bus over a period of 44 months, while the NURTW would supervise the allocation and repayment process.

The governor also commissioned five new fire trucks procured to strengthen firefighting capacity across the state.

He said the fire trucks would improve emergency response to fire outbreaks and directed the state fire service to ensure proper maintenance, personnel training and public fire safety awareness.

Lawal warned beneficiaries and government agencies against vandalism, misuse or diversion of the vehicles and other government assets, directing all ministries, departments and agencies as well as beneficiaries to submit quarterly maintenance and utilisation reports.
