First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has distributed disposable sanitary pads to school girls in Zamfara State.

The gesture was aimed at promoting girl-child education under the program Flow with confidence, which is part of the Renewed Hope Initiative.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who was represented by Zamfara State first lady, Hajiya Hurriya Dauda Lawal, said many girls end up staying at home, failing behind the studies and in some cases eventually, dropping out of school.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu expressed concern over how some girls abandon school, especially in rural communities due to their inability to purchase sanitary pads.

“No girl should have to miss school because of her inability to afford sanitary products; it is unacceptable.”

The first lady said girls continue to face significant challenges during their menstrual cycle especially those in rural areas who miss school every month because they cannot afford sanitary pad while some who attend resort to use unsafe and on hygienic products.

“This ugly trend must end and this intervention under the Education framework of the renewed home initiative is aimed at just doing that, we will be distributing 370,000 school girls in rural communities across the Nation,” the first lady said.

The first lady gave out over 10,000 packs of disposable sanitary pads for distribution to 1,000 deserving girls in rural communities across the State where each beneficiary received one year of supply sanitary pads and she called on the chairmen of local government areas to ensure safe delivery to the target beneficiaries.

The program “Flow with confidence” with the theme, empowering school girls through menstrual health was attended by the students of Government Girls Senior Secondary School Bungudu, Tsafe, Galadima and Tudun Wada in Gusau for the symbolic presentation.

Speaking, the Zamfara State Chairman Council of Chiefs and the Emir of Anka, Alhaji Attahiru Muhammad Ahmad applauded the gesture and said it will go a long way in promoting girls child education in the country.

Hajiya Hurriya Dauda Lawal said she was delighted to join to officially launch the renew hope initiative flow with confident menstrual health intervention designed to inspire and empower precious school girls by promoting knowledge dignity and confidence through improved menstrual hygiene.
