The Zamfara State Government has distributed relief materials to 62 victims rescued from bandits’ captivity in Keta village, Tsafe West District of Tsafe Local Government Area.

The victims, comprising men, women and children, were abducted about three months ago and were recently rescued following the intervention of the state government. Since their rescue, they have been receiving medical care at the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Gusau.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Aisha M. Z. Anka, said the victims were currently undergoing rehabilitation to help them recover from the trauma they experienced while in captivity.

Dr. Anka gave the assurance while distributing essential items to the victims, noting that the state government remained committed to ensuring their full rehabilitation before reuniting them with their respective families.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Barrister Suwaiba Ibrahim Barau, the commissioner said the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal places high priority on the security and welfare of citizens, describing the rescue and rehabilitation of the victims as part of the government’s broader commitment to protecting lives.

“Zamfara State Government is working closely with security agencies to restore lasting peace in the state,” she said, adding that the present administration was determined to strengthen the security architecture across Zamfara.

Dr. Anka also expressed optimism that the security challenges facing the northern region would soon be overcome through sustained efforts and collaboration.

In a statement issued by the Information Officer of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Suleman Aliyu Gusau, the commissioner urged the victims to accept the incident as the will of Almighty Allah and continue to pray for the success of the government in its efforts to support security agencies and eradicate banditry in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the victims, Malam Bashir Mohammad Keta expressed gratitude to the state government for its support since their rescue.

“We appreciate the concern and care shown to us, including medical treatment and the provision of essential materials, which have helped us regain our strength,” he said.
