Zamfara State Government has begun a massive construction of roads in several rural communities across the state, the Commissioner for Works and Transportation, Alhaji Ibrahim Isah Mayana, has disclosed.
Alhaji Mayana, who was speaking during the signing of the contractual agreement for the construction of Kwanar Magarya – Magarya -Danbuki- Jibia road, a border town with Katsina State, said the rural areas would be transformed.
He said the 26 kilometre road, which will cost N3.98 billion, was expected to be completed within 18 months.
He said he expected the contractor to follow the contract specifications and agreements to the letter.
He said work on Ruwan Doruwa- Kanoma was ongoing and it is about 60 % completion while the 94-kilometre Yankuzo- Yar talata -Yan waren Daji-Hayin Alhaji – Chediya – Yandoton Daji road has just been awarded.
“The idea behind the road constructions in rural communities was to make it easy for the rural dwellers to transport their farm produce to markets with ease with a resultant improvement in the overall economy of the rural communities.
“Whatever you do to improve the lives of the citizens in rural areas if they don’t have easy access to markets then there is a gap that needs to be bridged. Apart from this, many other markets are expected to open because transportation is one of the vital organ on which the economy is driven.
“Take, for example, I’m from Yankuzo village but it can take me almost two hours before I can transport my farm produce from my village to a market in Tsafe. But with the construction of the road, I can reach Tsafe in not less than 15 minutes,” he said.
