Governor Mahmud Shinkafi, who made this known at a news conference on Thursday in Gusau, said that work on the project started in January and would be completed and commissioned in February 2010. Shinkafi said that the project was being jointly funded by the state government and its Chinese partners in the ratio of 60 per cent and 40 per cent respectively.

Under the arrangement, he said that the state and the 14 local governments would contribute N1.6 billion, while the Chinese partners would provide expertise and the machines. He said that all the necessary machines are already on the ground waiting for installation.

The governor said that the Federal Government has already given four licences for the exploration of solid minerals in Damba, Maru, Kaura-Namoda and Maradun. He said that the project would create employment opportunity for the people as well as improve the revenue base of the state.
