Governor Dauda Lawal says six local government areas in Zamfara State have been reconnected to the national grid after years of total blackout.

He said the restoration followed a partnership between the state government and Kaduna Electric, and that work was ongoing to reconnect seven more LGAs, some of which had lacked electricity for over a decade.

Lawal disclosed this Wednesday at the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) roundtable in Abuja, where stakeholders gathered to explore investment opportunities in the state’s energy sector.

“Many communities were without power for more than 10 years. We have restored six, and we’re working to bring back light to seven more,” he said.

He said the move was part of a broader plan to revive public infrastructure, stimulate small businesses, and improve security in hard-hit areas.

The governor noted that Zamfara’s abundant sunlight and untapped hydropower potential made it a strong candidate for future renewable energy investment.

“We have what it takes — sun, land, and population — to drive energy access and development,” he said.
