The Zamfara State Government says it will commence the airlift of intending pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj from the Gusau International Airport.

The Executive Chairman of the State Hajj Commission, Alhaji Musa Mallaha, disclosed this during a radio programme in Gusau.

He, however, said the reduction in Nigeria’s Hajj quota by Saudi authorities would affect over 450 intending pilgrims from the state.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has reduced the number of Hajj slots allocated to Nigeria this year… this has affected over 450 intending pilgrims from Zamfara State,” he said.

Mallaha said measures had been put in place to improve the welfare of pilgrims.

“Each intending pilgrim will be provided with two large bags and one small bag, an improvement from previous years,” he said.

He added that a committee had been constituted to sensitise pilgrims on proper Hajj rites.

The committee, chaired by Sheikh Ahmad Ibn Umar Kanoma, will conduct orientation across the 14 local government areas ahead of the exercise scheduled to begin on April 14.

Also speaking, Islamic scholar Sheikh Sa’idu Aliyu Maikwano urged affected pilgrims to accept the development in good faith.

“They should accept it as the will of Allah and an act of destiny,” he said.
