The Zamfara State Ministry of Health says it will integrate climate change and health interventions into its 2027 Annual Operational Plan to address the growing impact of climate-related challenges on public health.
Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Rilwanu Musa Zurmi, disclosed this during a meeting of the Climate Change in Health Technical Working Group held in Gusau.
He said the ministry, in collaboration with development partners and relevant stakeholders, had adopted a Climate Change and Health Adaptation Plan to strengthen the state’s preparedness for climate-related health risks.
Zurmi commended members of the technical working group for their contributions towards developing strategies to protect public health and the environment.

He said climate change continues to pose serious threats to human health and the environment, making coordinated action imperative.
Director of Public Health, Dr Yusuf Abubakar Haske, identified air pollution, flooding, drought and deforestation as major environmental challenges affecting public health in the state.
He stressed the need for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to mitigate the effects of climate change and build resilient communities.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, Ministries of Environment and Women Affairs, academia, development partners and other stakeholders.
