Zamfara to upgrade special school facilities for PWD students

The Zamfara State Government has pledged to improve infrastructure and learning conditions for students with disabilities in the state.

The Commissioner for Budget and Supervising Commissioner for Education, Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam, made the commitment during an inspection visit to the School for Special Education in Gusau.

Gajam said the government would assess existing facilities, identify critical gaps and provide specialised equipment to support teaching and learning.

He was received by the Executive Chairman of the Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities Board, Usman Ahmed Nahuche, alongside school management.

The team inspected classrooms, hostels, staff quarters and administrative blocks, where several infrastructural and resource challenges were identified.

Speaking during the visit, Nahuche highlighted the importance of inclusive education and noted the diversity of sign languages used globally, including Nigerian and American Sign Languages.

He commended the government’s intervention, describing it as a step towards strengthening inclusive education and enabling students with disabilities to reach their full potential.
