The Nigerian Labour Congress in Zamfara state has gone on indefinite strike following what they described as government failure to address some labour issues.

The Congress had earlier given a 21 day-ultimatum to the  state government to address the plight of workers in the state or face industrial action.

The chairman of the Union Bashir Mafara said while briefing newsmen in Gusau that  the strike action would commence on Tuesday 00:00 hours and would not compromise until their demand are met.

He added that because the Union had chosen to be diplomatic and considerate in pressing home their demands they were able to achieve nothing within their 2 years stewardship in office.

He said thousands of workers in the state especially primary school teachers and local government employees are still receiving N8,000 as their take home pay making the workers  in the state the least paid in Nigeria.

Comrade Mafara further explained that it was pathetic to mention that the state government has retired workers that receive as low as N4,000 as their monthly pension despite the biting economic recession.

He then lambasted the state government for refusal to pay 1,400 graduates employed since 2014 urging the state government to implement various salary structure like CONTIDISS/COMPACASS and CONJUSS for judiciary staff and so on.

"It took us more than two years trying to draw the attention of the state government to address these problems but they failed to do so," he said.
