Two days after tanker drivers blocked the Zaria-Kano highway over the alleged killing of their colleague by a soldier, they have agreed to reopen the road.
Daily Trust on Sunday gathered that the protesting drivers, who used their heavy vehicles to block the busy highway, agreed to remove them on Saturday after a series of negotiations with security agencies and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The crisis began on Wednesday at 3.30 pm shortly after a soldier attached to a construction company shot the victim following an altercation.
The drivers blocked the road to demand justice for the victim’s family.

The incident happened near Tashar Yari in Makarfi town along the highway and led to a serious gridlock that got many travellers stranded.
Confirming the reopening of the road on Saturday morning, the state acting sector commandant of the FRSC, Lawal Garba, said normalcy had returned.
