The Zazzau Emirate has suspended a village head over the cheating and exploitation of subjects on matters concerning inheritance.

A statement issued by Abdullahi Aliyu Kwarbai, Media and Publicity Officer of the emirate, said the Emir of Zazzau, Mallam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, warned district heads against cheating and exploitation of subjects, especially on matters concerning inheritance.

The emir directed district heads to closely monitor the conduct of village heads and scribes in their day-to-day dealings with subjects, according to the statement.

“Zazzau Emirate Council, under the leadership of His Highness Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli CFR, the Emir of Zazzau, yesterday concluded deliberations on an inheritance complaint from Matarawa Community in Kudan District.

“The case, which came before the Council for the third time under its Alternative Dispute Resolution mandate, centred on allegations that some rightful heirs were shortchanged, while others were excluded entirely from the sharing of a deceased person’s estate.

“After a thorough review, the Council ordered the immediate suspension of the Village Head involved. It also directed the recovery of all funds wrongly distributed to persons not entitled to the estate,” the statement explained.

It further stated that with the recovery process now complete, the Emir received the funds and handed them over to the District Heads of Kudan and Hunkuyi under the emirate.

Bamalli instructed them to return to Matarawa and oversee a fresh, equitable distribution to all eligible beneficiaries in strict accordance with Islamic inheritance law as enshrined in the Holy Qur’an.
