The Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, has called for stronger collaboration among traditional rulers to promote national unity, peace, security and cultural preservation.
He made the call during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Zazzau, Mallam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, at his palace in Zaria.
The Gombe emir said closer engagement among traditional institutions was essential for addressing challenges affecting national cohesion and grassroots development.
He said the visit was aimed at strengthening the long-standing relationship between the Gombe and Zazzau emirates.
“This is not our first meeting. It is intended to promote brotherhood, unity and solidarity among our emirates,” he said.
Abubakar stressed that regular consultations among royal fathers would enhance peace, improve security, preserve Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and foster national integration.

He also commended the leadership of the Emir of Zazzau, describing traditional rulers as key partners in supporting government efforts towards sustainable development and peaceful coexistence.

Responding, the Emir of Zazzau said the visit reaffirmed the enduring relationship among Nigeria’s traditional institutions and reflected their shared commitment to national unity.

Bamalli noted that the historic ties between the Zazzau and Gombe emirates date back to the 19th-century Islamic reform movement led by Usman dan Fodio, which promoted good governance, scholarship and peaceful coexistence across Northern Nigeria.

He urged Nigerians to embrace unity and tolerance, saying traditional institutions remained committed to promoting peace, education, community development and national integration.
