Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Umara Zulum, has flagged off the distribution of food palliatives to 57,647 households in Gamboru Ngala Local Government Area.
Gamboru Ngala and Kala Balge remain the only two LGAs in the state where regular palliative distribution continues due to residents’ inability to fully resume farming activities, largely due to insecurity.
Earlier this year, Governor Zulum had announced a 90% scale-down of palliative aid to victims of Boko Haram insurgency, emphasising a shift toward empowerment and self-reliance through long-term development initiatives.
Represented by Alhaji Ali Abdullahi Isa, the Director-General of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Zulum reiterated his administration’s commitment to helping residents of Gamboru Ngala return to farming as a sustainable livelihood.

“This intervention is to cushion the impact of hardship during the lean season. We discontinued aid in most LGAs after last year’s bumper harvest, but due to unique challenges here, we will continue with support while working with security agencies to ensure people return to their farms,” Zulum said.
