Zulum introduces vocational education for almajirai

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has unveiled a comprehensive strategy to expand vocational education across the state’s three senatorial zones, with a focus on equipping youths with industry-relevant skills.

The governor, who gave the directive on Monday while receiving a report on repositioning technical and vocational education in the state, also instructed the Ministry of Education to work with the Sangaya (Almajiri) Education Board to introduce vocational training into Sangaya schools.

According to Zulum, the initiative is designed to empower young people, reduce the mismatch between education and labour market demands, and stimulate economic growth.

“The mismatch between our graduates and the labour market is deep. If we want to address it, we must ensure a robust technical and vocational education system is established,” he said.

The governor noted that although much has been achieved in providing vocational skills, more needs to be done.
