Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum on Wednesday approved the employment of 40 additional medical doctors.
There are a number of hospitals in the insurgency-ravaged areas of the state without a medical doctor.

The governor’s directive was given at a meeting with the chief executives of seven public hospitals and related institutions located in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and Jere Local Government Area.
The meeting, held behind closed doors, was meant to improve health care system and ensure qualitative service delivery to the citizens, a statement signed by Isa Gusau, Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Relations and Strategy has said.
In the past, the government had approved the recruitment of 594 health workers, among them, 86 medical doctors, 365 nurses and midwives, 45 pharmacists and 100 health technicians and other support staff.
Gusau said the governor was conducted round the Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri, where he directed the construction of an additional ward to address overcrowding. A land acquired by the government, located near the hospital, would be utilised for the new ward.
