A member of the Edo State Vigilantes, identified as Ijeh Moses, has been reportedly killed during a gun battle between the security team and some suspected kidnappers in a rescue operation in the state.

Daily Trust reports that the police, in collaboration with vigilantes and hunters, rescued seven kidnapped victims after the ensued gun battle.

One of the rescued victims sustained gunshot injury during the operation and is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

The command’s spokesperson, Moses Yamu, said the victims were rescued by the operatives from Igarra, Igueben and Agenebode divisions.

He said the coordinated rescue operation led to the rescue of seven kidnapped victims but regrettably lost one vigilante, Ijeh Moses, in the process.

He added that one victim who sustained injury is responding to treatment.

According to him, two of the victims were kidnapped on April 19 along the Udoneria-Ewatto Road while four others were kidnapped on April 20 along Udoeguare community.
