One hundred and twenty cattle were reportedly rustled in the Fan District of Barikin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident, according herding community, occurred around 3 pm when the cattle were grazing in the area.
Abubakar Gambo, Secretary of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), in Barikin Ladi, told journalists that the incident has been reported to security agencies in the area.
“As soon as the incident happened, I reported it to the personnel of Operation Safe Haven to see how they could rescue them. This incident is one too many because we have been experiencing cattle rustling around the area these days. The commander of Operation Safe Haven has promised to trail the cattle to Fan district,” the MACBAN said.

Alh. Muhammad Dan’azumi, one of the owners of the cattle, told Daily Trust that “Three persons were herders were rearing the cattle when the gunmen opened fire, forcing the herders to flee. They rustled the cattle, and up to this moment, we have not heard the whereabouts of the cattle. We have reported to security, who promise to do something about it. “
The MACBAN accused the Berom ethnic group of rustling cattle.
But the president of Berom Youth Moulders Association, Solomon Dalyop, denied the allegation.
He said, “It is very appalling that the ongoing insecurity on the Plateau is taking its previous ugly face that was buried long ago. This does not give rise to an admission that the alleged rustled cows were stolen by the inhabitants of Fan, if it is true that such happened. If it is factually truthful that such an incident took place, then let the security agents swing into investigation as we assure the public of collaboration with relevant bodies to help in tracing the whereabouts of the individuals involved, should it turn out to be our people.
“This is not the first time villages of Fan District have aided and intercepted rustled cows. I, however, want to caution against fuelling of propaganda of the Fulani to justify armed invasion or any form of aggression to be unleashed on our people, who would continue to be peaceful, which should not be taken for cowardice, “the president said.
