The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects from Umunwaji Ogboro, Ihiala, in Ihiala Local Government Area of the state in connection with the murder of an 80-year-old woman.

The two suspects are Chidiebere Igboanugo and Emmanuel Ibeabuchi.

According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects were taken into custody on Tuesday.

The victim, Mrs Theresa Igbojonu, who was from the same village, was found tied at both her legs and mouth before being murdered.

A motorcycle, allegedly stolen from the deceased, was also recovered.

Ikenga said investigation into the incident was ongoing since a complaint was received on April 2, 2025, at around 11:30 p.m.

He further revealed that a joint security team, during a patrol in Ihiala, arrested Chidiebere Igboanugo on April 5, 2025, after the deceased’s son spotted the stolen motorcycle being ridden by the suspect along Ezego Junction in Ihiala.

“Upon interrogation of Chidiebere, security operatives acted swiftly and, on April 7, 2025, arrested Emmanuel Ibeabuchi, whom Chidiebere identified as part of the gang responsible for the crime. Further investigation also revealed that two other suspects, known as Alla and Emeka, are currently at large and are believed to be members of the same gang,” Ikenga stated.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for further investigation.
