The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has urged soldiers to intensify their efforts in combating terrorism and other security challenges facing the country.

Addressing troops at the 3 Division Headquarters in Jos on Tuesday, Oluyede, who has been in Plateau State for the past two days following deadly attacks in Bokkos communities that left over 50 people dead, emphasised that without peace, there can be no development.

“The challenges we face are widespread across Nigeria, and I can assure you that the entire nation is relying on us to address these issues. These challenges include terrorism, kidnapping, armed robbery, and more. Nigerians are looking to us to improve the situation,” the COAS said.

He urged soldiers to look beyond their immediate tasks and recognize the broader impact of their work on the nation’s development.

Oluyede also reiterated his commitment to improving the welfare and well-being of the soldiers, citing initiatives like a housing scheme and loan programmes.

The COAS assured the troops that the government remains committed to supporting the military, including renovations within the barracks.

He announced that ten new blocks are being renovated, along with the construction of a school for soldiers’ children, as part of efforts to enhance the soldiers’ living conditions.
