The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has destroyed 243 cartons of alcohol and 100 gallons of locally brewed illicit liquor, popularly known as “Shock and Die” (Sukudai).

The exercise, which took place in Damaturu, was part of a broader initiative to enforce laws prohibiting the consumption and distribution of alcohol in the state.

The Executive Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Yahuza Hamza Abubakar, said the operation was in line with the commission’s mandate to enforce laws that promote decency and protect societal values.

“Alcohol consumption poses a threat to public health and social harmony. Its distribution in the state remains prohibited under existing laws,” he stated.

Dr. Yahuza further reiterated the commission’s commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence, justice, and societal reform, adding that Hisbah had also mediated and resolved several disputes during the recent operation.

He called on residents of Damaturu and the state at large to continue supporting efforts at maintaining moral order and public decency.
