The Benue State Police Command has rescued five passengers abducted by suspected kidnappers along a track road in the Ugbokolo axis of Okpokwu Local Government Area.

The spokesperson for the command, DSP Udeme Edet, said on Sunday that the victims were rescued following a swift operation triggered by a distress call received at approximately 10pm on December 23, 2025. The call reported an ongoing robbery and kidnapping near Efoyo village, Ugbokolo.

Edet said that police patrol teams attached to the Ugbokolo Division responded promptly and stormed the scene, forcing the kidnappers to flee into the bush.

She noted that a Volkswagen Golf vehicle abandoned by the suspects was recovered, while two passengers—Ochigbo John Paul, (25) and Joseph Ominyi (24)—who had escaped into the bush during the chaos, were immediately rescued.

She said three other passengers remained unaccounted as at that time.

The police spokesperson further explained that by 9am. on December 24, 2025, the command received credible information that one of the missing victims, Okoh Marriah (22) had escaped from captivity at Agadagba in Ohimini LGA. Detectives were dispatched to the location, and she was safely recovered.

Edet added that the command subsequently intensified search and rescue operations in collaboration with the Benue State Protection Guard and local community members, combing forests across the Ugbokolo axis and Ohimini LGA.

The sustained operation yielded further results at about 5:30 am on December 26, 2025, when the remaining two victims—Omale Abah Joseph (28) and Lucky Adoyi (45)—were released by their abductors, bringing the total number of rescued victims to five.
