One of the abducted seminarian, identified as Alabi Emmanuel (17), has died in kidnappers’ captivity in Edo State. This tragedy occurred even as the state police command announced it had successfully rescued one of the seminarians alive.

It would be recalled that three seminarians were abducted on July 10, 2025, from the Catholic’s Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary School in Ivianokpodi, Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area of the State.

One of the seminarians had earlier regained freedom after the alleged payment of ransom, leaving two in captivity.

The command’s spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said the seminarian was rescued by operatives of the Edo and Kogi states’ commands in collaboration with local vigilantes and hunters.

According to her, one of the two victims was rescued alive and is currently responding to treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

She added that the second victim, Alabi Emmanuel (17), died while in the custody of the abductors.

ASP Ikoedem said the rescue operation was intensified in August when the video of the abducted seminarians surfaced online, leading to the establishment of the tactical division at Ivieukwa, to sustain pressure on the kidnappers.

The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, Monday Agbonika, assured the public that the command remains resolute in ensuring that the perpetrators of this heinous act are brought to justice.
