The Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has condemned the rising wave of terror attacks in parts of the South West and other regions of Nigeria.
Comrade Jare Ajayi, Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, in a statement, cited recent incidents, including the killing of Forest Guards at Old Oyo National Park in Oloka, Oyo State, the murder of four farmers in Igboho, and the abduction of a nursing mother and her child in Supare/Ajegunle, Ondo State.
He also recalled the burning of a police station in Ipele, Ondo State, and bandits fleeing from Sokoto following US airstrikes.
He challenged the region’s governors to implement the security measures they agreed on in Ibadan on November 24, 2025, including the establishment of a South West Security Fund (SWSF) and a Joint Security Intelligence Sharing Platform.
He suggested including neighboring states like Kwara, Kogi, Edo, and Delta in the initiative due to security linkages.
He commended the military for recent successes, including foiling attacks in Plateau, uncovering explosives in Niger State, and seizing 1,270 warheads in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Ajayi stressed the need to address inefficiencies in intelligence, sabotage, and forced participation of captives in criminal acts.
He advocated deradicalization programmes, debriefing of indoctrinated youths, restructuring and modernising the security apparatus, motivating personnel, and introducing State Police at community levels.
He urged a Presidential Order to establish state and community-level policing, pending constitutional amendments, noting recent agreements between governors and the President on the creation of State Police as a positive step.
