After almost five years of leadership crisis, the Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA) has on Sunday finally elected new excos.
The election saw the emergence of Amb. Usman Hassan Darma as President of the Chamber during the Annual General Meeting of the chamber.
Also, the meeting elected Abdulaziz Sabitu Mohammad as first Deputy President, Umar Ismail Haruna as second Deputy President, Kabir Mohammed Adamu as Vice President Industry, Sameera Abubakar Abdullahi as Vice President Publicity while Binta Muhammad Jibrin emerged as the new Vice President Corporate.
Other elected excos are Aliyu Mustapha Mohammed as Vice President Property, Nura Habibu as Vice President Commerce, Umar Ladiyo Ibrahim as Treasurer, Yusuf Aliyu Umar as Vice President Agriculture and Aisha Sulaiman Baffa as new Deputy Treasurer.

Speaking shortly after the election, the new president said the process has brought to an end an over five years of back and forth, saying all the warring factors have sheathed their swords and agreed to work together towards the development of the chamber.
He said the composition of the new leadership has brought people representing different interests, promising to work with other excos to deliver on the chamber’s expectations on them.
“We have competent hands from different sectors and by God’s grace we will move the chamber forward. We have been battling for over five years. But with this election now, all the parties involved have been co-opted as one family and there won’t be any dispute again.
“Our biggest focus is reforming the chamber and improving different sectors in terms of capacity building, access to finance, and addressing challenges,” Amb. Darma added.
Earlier, the outgoing President of the chamber, Malam Ibrahim Garba, said the new excos will work on a lot of reforms that include expansion of membership to include all those eligible in the state, payment of annual dues to validate membership as well as review of leadership eligibility of the chamber.
