Troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade have intercepted and neutralised an arms courier, recovering five AK-47 rifles and three magazines in the process.
The incident occurred during a snap check operation along the Share-Gbugbu road in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The operation was part of ongoing activities under Operation Park Strike V.
Captain Stephen Nwankwo, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed the incident in a statement sent to Daily Trust on Saturday.

He said contrary to the earlier reports, the suspected arms courier was killed during the incident with recovery of rifles and magazines.
Nwankwo reaffirmed the Army’s resolve to sustain operations across Kwara and neighbouring states.
He urged residents to provide credible information to security agencies to aid in ongoing efforts to contain threats.
“Acting on credible intelligence, troops intercepted a Volkswagen Golf 3 vehicle with registration number Bayelsa SAG-133 XA.”
“The driver attempted to flee but was shot by the soldiers. A search of the vehicle uncovered the rifles and magazines concealed in a charcoal sack.
“Preliminary reports indicated that the courier had departed from Birnin Gwari in Kaduna State before being tracked and intercepted around 8:30 a.m. in Edu LGA”, he stated.
He added that “Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, commended the troops for their action and directed them to maintain pressure on criminal groups within the area”.
He said the brigade remained committed to denying arms traffickers and other criminal elements freedom of movement.
