Prominent Nigerians, including Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and former governors Ibrahim Shekarau and Abdullahi Ganduje, have pledged support for rebuilding Kano’s socio-economic values.
They are among a 34-member committee formed by the Kano Elders’ Advisory Council in collaboration with the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Kano chapter.
The committee is chaired by Prof. Shehu Galadanchi, with Dr. Faruk Umar, ACF Kano chairman, as secretary.
Members include respected leaders such as Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu, General Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), former governors Kabiru Gaya and Rabiu Kwankwaso, Prof. Auwalu Yadudu, Sheikh AbdulWahab AbdulLahi, Prof. Ruqayya Ahmad, and businessman A.A. Rano.

Dr. Umar said the council would serve as a non-partisan body to advise government on issues such as drug abuse, phone snatching, child trafficking, and unemployment. He added that the AKHUWAT initiative was already tackling poverty at grassroots level.
Senator Jibrin praised the unity of purpose behind the initiative, pledging federal support in addressing poverty and unemployment. Dangote, in a letter, endorsed the council’s work, describing it as timely and essential for restoring values and governance in Kano.
Shekarau said the absence of such a body in the past had worsened hooliganism and crime, urging leaders to put Kano above politics. Ganduje, represented by former SSG Usman Alhaji, stressed collective cooperation, while NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa, represented, called for urgent action against drug abuse.
Prof. Galadanchi emphasized value reorientation, unity, and ethical leadership as foundations for tackling Kano’s challenges. Elders like Dalhatu and A.A. Rano echoed the need for family values, employment generation, and poverty alleviation, with Rano pledging an additional N20 million to support small businesses.
